World Dream Cruise Ship, Hong Kong

World Dream is a new cruise ship being built by Meyer Werft for Genting Hong Kong's premium cruise brand Dream Cruises.

Meyer Werft initially received the contract for the construction of World Dream in February 2014. Construction began with a steel-cutting ceremony, which was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, in February 2016.

The ship was launched by the shipyard in August 2017 and is set to join her sister shipGenting Dream in the fourth quarter of 2017.

World Dream is slated to embark on her maiden voyage from Hong Kong on 17 November 2017.

Design and technical specifications

World Dream has been purposefully developed to cater to the Asian cruise market. It includes a range of restaurants, entertainment spaces and casinos, as well as specially designed staterooms.

The ship comprises 18 decks and features a length of 335m and a width of 40m.

It has a gross tonnage of 151,300t and is manned by a crew of approximately 2,030 personnel.

World Dream cruise ship staterooms

The cruise ship will feature a total of 1,686 staterooms, and 70% of these are expected to offer ocean views. The staterooms can accommodate up to 3,400 guests in double, triple and quad sharing configurations.

The ship's high-class accommodation units will be classified into Garden Penthouse, Dream Executive Suite, Dream Deluxe Suite, Dream Suite and Palace Suite categories.

Other cabin categories will include Balcony Stateroom, Balcony Deluxe Stateroom, Inside Stateroom and Ocean-View Stateroom.

The suite rooms will be furnished with King and Queen size beds, flat-panel televisions and private bathrooms with full bathtubs, separate showers and toilets.

Each unit can accommodate up to four guests.

The staterooms will feature Queen-size or twin beds, an optional ceiling pullman bed and a flat-panel television.

Dining and entertainment facilities

The cruise ship will feature 35 restaurants and bars offering a variety of food and beverage menus.

The Silk Road restaurant on Deck 6 will serve Chinese cuisine, while Umi Uma on Deck 8 will offer premium Japanese cuisine.

Other dining venues will include separate steak and seafood restaurants, The Lido, Dream Dining Room, Blue Lagoon and Lobby Café.

In addition, the onboard bars such as Sun Deck Bar, Pool Deck Bar, Johnnie Walker House, Penfolds Wine Vault and Bar 360 will serve international wines, Scotch whisky, cocktails and various other drinks.

Guests will also be able to experience signature shows such as Sogno and Some Like It Hot, as well as laser shows and fireworks displays.

The fitness and wellness facilities will comprise a modern fitness centre, jogging / walking track, western spa and an Asian and Chinese style spa, plunge pool, steam and sauna, foot massage and a relaxation lounge.

The virtual reality game zone on Deck 17 will feature Vesaro car racing simulators.

World Dream will also feature a waterslide park, basketball court and multi-function space, a nine-hole outdoor golf course, an outdoor rock climbing wall and an outdoor adventure ropes course.

It will also feature an outdoor deck for sunbathing and relaxation, a swimming pool with four whirlpools, a performance stage and a childrens' water park.

The duty-free shopping area on Deck 7 will feature a large number of brand partners, in addition to other retail venues such as The Market, Art Gallery and The Dream Store.

Propulsion

World Dream will be powered by five diesel engines providing a total power output of 76,800kW.

The propulsion system will integrate two Azipod XO azimuth thrusters and three bow thrusters, which will enable the ship to sail at a maximum speed of 24k.

Itineraries of World Dream

World Dream will sail on a series of six-day round-trip voyages from Hong Kong / Guangzhou through a variety of destinations, including Manila and Boracay in the Philippines.

The ship is also set to embark on six-day round-trip cruises from Hong Kong / Guangzhou to Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang in Vietnam between December 2017 and October 2018.
