BigLift Shipping to end joint venture with Rolldock Shipping

Netherlands-based firm BigLift Shipping has announced plans to end its collaboration with Rolldock Shipping as part of the joint venture company BigRoll Shipping.

BigLift has not disclosed any reason to support its decision.

The development is expected to be effective from 1 January and will see two heavy transport vessels from BigRoll Shipping known as BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin join the BigLift fleet.

The vessels are identical module carriers (MC) and are expected to improve BigLift’s shipping capabilities by including a large flush deck of 125m x 42m for roll-on roll-off (RoRo) cargos.

In addition, the MC-class ships are also equipped with Finnish Swedish 1A ice class capability and have been specifically designed to handle large module shipments, cranes and other voluminous cargo.

They will also allow BigLift to provide its clients with improved customised shipping solutions for both single shipments and larger projects.

"The company further noted that its latest decision will not affect BigRoll Shipping's ongoing contracts and tenders, which will still be executed in partnership with Rolldock Shipping."

Both vessels have already undertaken several voyages and have demonstrated their capability to operate using less fuel than other models.

BigLift aims to make a commitment to the heavy transport market by expanding its fleet, as well as offer improved vessels and high-class engineering services to its clients.

The company further noted that its latest decision will not affect BigRoll Shipping's ongoing contracts and tenders, which will still be executed in partnership with Rolldock Shipping.

BigRoll Shipping was initially formed in 2013 with an aim to operate two MC-class vessels for the transportation of ultra-large and heavy modular cargoes via sea.
