Bureau Veritas develops app for energy-efficient shipping
Bureau Veritas has unveiled the first phase of its My Fuel Consumption application to help shipowners comply with International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) data collection system (DCS) and the European Union’s monitoring, reporting and verification (EU MRV) regulations.
My Fuel Consumption is a Cloud-based and secure web application designed for use on desktop computers, mobiles and tablets.
It is developed to make compliance easy by using a digitised process that needs to be followed to meet various steps of IMO-DCS and EU MRV regulations.
IMO-DCS mandates the operators to collect data on fuel consumption of their vessels, while EU MRV requires ship owners and operators to annually monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for vessels larger than 5,000t calling at any EU and Norway and Iceland (EFTA) port.
All ships with 5,000t and above capability are required to submit their IMO-DCS plan to receive a confirmation of compliance from their flag states or delegated recognised organisations (ROs) before 1 January 2019.
The Phase 1 of My Fuel Consumption will allow owners to fill in and submit their Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans (SEEMPs) Part II as required by IMO-DCS for their Bureau Veritas classed ships.
“The whole point of My Fuel Consumption is to make life simpler and easier for our clients, and therefore contribute to the reduction of emissions.”
Using the app, the operators can also follow the review progress online and download their confirmation of compliance.
Bureau Veritas Operational Excellence vice-president Laurent Hentges said: “The whole point of My Fuel Consumption is to make life simpler and easier for our clients, and therefore contribute to the reduction of emissions.
“It also helps them to get accessible, accurate and useful data, as well as being a compliance tool.”
Bureau Veritas plans to release Phase II of My Fuel Consumption in June this year.
The solution will be designed to help vessel owners complete their declarations, for both IMO-DCS and EU-MRV, through a single online form.
