Wärtsilä has successfully tested its new navigation system, which combines the Eniram Trim and Nacos Platinum solutions, on-board the ‘Costa Atlantica’ cruise ship, a part of Carnival’s Costa Crociere fleet.
The Eniram Trim platform is designed to enable the crew to immediately respond to changing conditions and maintain an optimum trim in real time.
It was used with Wärtsilä’s Nacos Platinum control system for navigation, automation and dynamic positioning activities, as part of the test.
The combination of Eniram and Nacos technologies offer better operational visibility and require fewer workstations, as well as improved customer support and subsequent evaluation of data.
The integrated system is easier to use and provides more guidance information to the crew. The information, which is available on all the Nacos screens, offers greater visibility and awareness.
It eventually improves efficiency and safer operation of the vessel, as well as more sustainable and cost-efficient shipping.
Wärtsilä Marine Solutions Automation, Navigation, Communication director Maik Stoevhase said: “This programme fits well into Wärtsilä’s digitalisation strategy, our vision for a smart marine future and our roadmap of horizontal integration across Wärtsilä’s unrivalled product portfolio.
“This testing programme confirmed our ability to create a better value chain for data collection and analytics.”
“We are uniquely positioned to utilise complementing technologies because of our extensive product portfolio and broad range of in-house competences, and this testing programme confirmed our ability to create a better value chain for data collection and analytics.”
The Eniram Trim solution was developed by Eniram, a company that develops energy management technology to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and was acquired by Wärtsilä in 2016.
The solution offers analysis based on a vessel’s hydrodynamic characteristics, as well as information gathered by attitude sensors installed on the vessel’s hull, and the vessel’s automation and bridge systems.
Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum system features control systems for navigation, automation and dynamic positioning, as well as power and propulsion.
