Monjasa acquires MT Fredericia vessel to support operations
Danish company Monjasa has acquired the 3,600 DWT tanker MT Fredericia to support its operations across the English Channel.
The vessel was on the company’s time charter for multiple years and currently offers exclusive bunkering operations in the Portland, Tongue Anchorage, and Falmouth areas.
Monjasa Group CEO Anders Østergaard said: “We are seeing a steady demand for our services in the UK, and this is also the reason why we decided to acquire the vessel.
“Monjasa now gains full ownership of the supply chain, as we already control all sourcing and storage of oil products at our oil terminal in Portland Port.”
The purpose-built double-hull bunker tanker MT Fredericia was built in 2008 and will continue fuelling vessels travelling through the SECA zone.
“We are seeing a steady demand for our services in the UK, and this is also the reason why we decided to acquire the vessel.”
It is currently completing multiple weekly supplies to cruise ships in the Southampton region.
Monjasa is said to have witnessed growth in the number of fuel deliveries to this particular customer segment in the past two years and expects a similar busy season for MT Fredericia this year.
The company delivered 700,000mts of marine fuel across Northwest Europe last year, which represents nearly 19% of its total annual supply volume.
With a team of around 500 employees, the company focuses on trading and delivery of marine fuels, oil terminal operations and ship-owning activities worldwide.
In 2016, Monjasa started taking bunkers across the English Channel to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) hub as an alternative for the ship-owners and operators.
