Transas to provide fleet operations to Wilson
Wärtsilä subsidiary Transas has won a contract to provide a fleet operations solution (FOS) to Norway-based fleet operator Wilson Ship Management.
The FOS is designed to establish an infrastructure comprising on-board navigational and communication components to provide improved connectivity for business communications and crew services.
It is also capable of offering access to fleet data from shore-based locations for complete situational awareness of the vessels.
Transas will also supply its Advanced Remote Training for Seafarers (ARTS) module, an e-learning solution with online access to manufacturer-approved, type-specific training courses for the Navi-Sailor electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS).
The module complies with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), International Safety Management (ISM), and the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) requirements.
Transas Wärtsilä Voyage Solutions leader Frank Coles said: “This landmark contract with Wilson to roll out the Fleet Operations Solution demonstrates the value that digital solutions can add to large fleet operations in today’s business environment.
“Joined-up technology has a definite role to play in the marine sector’s transition to a new era of efficiency.”
“Joined-up technology has a definite role to play in the marine sector’s transition to a new era of efficiency.”
The FOS is part of the Thesis concept within Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine Ecosystem vision. The Thesis concept is designed to facilitate collaborative ship operations by linking fleet operations with the ships, the port, and with coastal traffic management, using shared data to increase safety, reliability, and efficiency.
FOS also includes elements from Transas’ newly launched A-suite portfolio, comprising a range of decision support tools.
The managed service is developed to provide various benefits to ship owners and operators, including fixed monthly fee payment terms that cover ECDIS charts and associated updates, as well as maintenance.
Apart from all airtime costs, predictability to data services and satcom fees are included in the FOS.
