MISC receives new MOSS-Type LNG carrier from HHI

Malaysian shipping company MISC Berhad (MISC) has taken delivery of the third vessel in a series of five MOSS-Type Seri-C class liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from its manufacturer Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

Named Seri Cempaka, the vessel is capable of carrying 150,200CBM of cargo.

As part of the delivery, Seri Cempaka has joined the Seri Cenderawasih and Seri Camellia MOSS-Type new builds on a long-term charter to Petronas.

Petronas executive vice-president and group CFO YBhg Datuk George Ratilal said: “Seri Cempaka and her sister MOSS-Type Seri C Class vessels are a feat of engineering that have placed operational efficiency and environmental responsibility at the core.

“The result is an LNG carrier of unrivalled performance, reflecting the commitment of our trusted partner, MISC, in supporting our global operations.”

Seri Cempaka features an integrated hull structure (IHS) with four spherical tanks shielded by a continuous cover, enabling the carrier to operate in adverse marine environments.

“The result is an LNG carrier of unrivalled performance, reflecting the commitment of our trusted partner, MISC, in supporting our global operations.”

The MOSS-Type vessels are also capable of reducing hull-resistance, power requirements and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while increasing propulsion efficiency.

As part of MISC’s long-term fleet expansion programme, the vessels are designed to be called at the 80 LNG receiving terminals and 26 liquefaction terminals in operation worldwide.

The vessels’ improved cargo containment system has also enabled MISC to accommodate cargo loading operation at Floating LNG (FLNG) unit.

The MOSS-Type vessels have already received Green Passport Notification with an extended low-load gas mode, which allows the carriers to operate entirely on LNG for full compliance with existing and upcoming Sulphur Emissions Control Area (SECA) regulations.
